Sleeping Cloths from India

I was asked to make a quilt out of two sentimental pieces of sleeping cloth from India. Moto has had these for a while. Since she is moving back to Canada she wanted to continue to use them & have them made into a quilt. They are well loved pieces and are a cotton blend that feels like a very soft gauze fabric. We aren’t sure the fabric content but they quilted up beautifully.

The center shows some fading but they are beautiful one of a kind prints. Both sides are similar but not exact. I was happy to find a nice fabric for the binding.  It was a fun project & I am thrilled that she loved the outcome. The quilting design is “Herbology” by Hermione Agee. I used a matching color thread & Hobbs 80/20 batting.

Bits & pieces

Here are some bits & pieces of quilts I cannot show entirely yet. I did want to show the designs & how they look quilted up. Below is a quilt made from some coverlets from India. It is a very soft gauze type fabric. The design is difficult to see because the thread matches so well but is called Herbology and it gives a nice texture to the quilt but is not over powering it.

This is a wedding quilt with the design Hearts and Ribbons, white thread and poly batting. It will be used as a signature quilt so when done will offer the couple lots of well wishes.

Some days I have some very interesting projects but since they are gifts I often cannot post them until they are gifted. Hopefully this gives you a little idea of what I’ve been working on.

Sew on friends!

I’m back in the saddle again…

I am back from a weekend retreat & back at quilting. Its always nice to get away & just be able to sew on some of my projects.  It rained most of the weekend but when the sun did come out it was a beautiful sunset on Traverse Bay. Its really a nice view by day while sewing too.

This is one top I finished over the weekend. I started this a couple years ago. I took a class at Huron River Quilts. This pattern is spools by Edyta Sitar. I love that many of her patterns are traditional and yet use beautiful soft colored batiks.

I have another quilt top, a past mystery quilt, almost finished & will post a pic when I get the borders on. One more out of the closet!

Martha’s Daybreak Quilt

This is Martha’s quilt, I could tell this was going to be a striking quilt when I started quilting it. The design looked so pretty as it rolled up on the back bar of my machine.

The design is Brightly B2B by Ann Bright, Hobbs 80/20 batting & a bright yellow thread.

The weather was nice enough to not only quilt some floral fabric but to plant some flowers outside, nice!

Memorial Day

The long awaited warm weather is finally here!  Its so nice to get outside again. I’ve only begun to do the much needed yard work this weekend. Its a date I relate to that last chance of late frost & when this weekend arrives I feel fairly safe to plant tender plants outside.

Of course I’ll still be working on quilts and trying to find a good balance where I can complete work timely and  also enjoy some time in the garden. I’m also fighting the urge to start new quilting projects. Instead, I am trying to finish up many that I have begun and are sitting here taunting me to complete them. Maybe its time to create a WIP list. I just keep thinking up more work.

Whether you are working outside, quilting or with family …. Have a great holiday weekend!
