Longarm Quilter

Sue C’s Cuppa Wooly Quilt

This is a Cuppa Wooly Quilt I quilted back in April for Sue C. I couldn’t post photos of it until Sue Spargo released her book of this pattern so better late than never here are the photos.

The border on this quilt has paisley fill and pebbles. The swirls and wide piano keys were a design requested after seeing a quilt finished by Marianne, (longarmer2006) another long-arm quilter in our Cuppa yahoo Group. I wish I knew her full name so I could give her credit for that design. Others I’ve quilted have also liked the large swirls so they were included but the piano keys were made closer to take up some of the fullness and density of quilting.

Each quilt I’ve quilted are different, unique in the combination of designs and background fills. I just discovered the backings are all different as well. Sue Spargo included small pieces of fabric to make the backings wide enough for quilting. So far each one I’ve quilted have been different colors and prints.

For those waiting on their quilt, I have 5 in house currently and Pam V will be next in line for quilting. I plan on completing them all before the Christmas holiday. Thank you for your patience waiting for them to be completed.

Dana’s Cuppa Wooly Quilt

I’m finishing up a few Cuppa wool Sue Spargo wallhangings for members of the Block of the Month group I am part of.  If you are not familiar with Sue Spargo, check out her website.  A lot of time and work goes into making these wallhangings. There are layers of wool stitched down then embellished with fancy embroidery stitches with wool thread to create the whimsical look. Check out Sue’s website, she has some great close up photo’s where you can see more of the detail.

This is Dana’s Cuppa Wooly. She did a beautiful job stitching this.  It’s primarily Wool and a few cotton pieces mixed in. The batting is wool and the backing is cotton.

GLHQ’s 2017 Retreat @ Lake Huron Retreat Center

I spent Monday thru Thursday at the Lake Huron Retreat Center https://umcamping.org/camps/lake-huron/

I have slowly been working on a mystery quilt called Peace, Love & Quilt (PLQ). This was a free online mystery by Sharon Blackmore of https://www.loveshackquilts.ca.

Since I spend a lot of time quilting for others, I often set my projects aside. Well, I took this along to finish up putting the blocks together. It’s been sitting around for too long. I have the blocks together but decided to add a white border to make it queen sized.  I purchased that fabric but still need to cut and sew it on.

This laid on the retreat floor for a couple days and no one noticed the block out of place. I’m so glad I posted this online where one of the PLQ members pointed this to before I added the borders. Look at the top row & you’ll see it. I need to take that block out & turn it.

Another project I worked on with Martha S. We decided to make the same quilt & she had the Marcia Derse fabrics and I had the bolt of black fabric. She cut the colored pieces and I cut all the black and we swapped. We both have our blocks done but not put together yet. Here are a few blocks of that project. I still need to press them and then can lay them out and move around the blocks until they look good.

Retreat is always a fun get away. I hate the packing but I love that I don’t have to cook and can get some piecing done. This is a church retreat center so there is no wine or adult beverages allowed ( the only downside). We had beautiful views of Lake Huron. We can open the windows and get the breeze off the lake or when it got hot we turned on the A/C.IMG_3975

Now that I’m home I’ll be back working on others quilts, Dana’s wooly and Jean P’s allover.

GLHQ’s Retreat

I’m heading to retreat tomorrow. I’ll be gone for 4 days of sewing with the Great Lakes Heritage Quilters.

I will have limited wifi but will try to check in when I can.  I hope to get a couple projects finished and plan on listening to a Fanny Flagg audio book while sewing.

When I return the next quilts up are Amy’s Edge to Edge on her animal print stars quilt and Dana’s Cuppa Wooly BOM quilt.

Have a great week and I’ll try to get a few photo’s to share while at retreat.

Half Square Triangle Quilt

I just met with Maralee C to pick up her quilt. It’s a gift quilt, I think that will be really loved. The quilting design is called Geometric B2B (Ann Bright is the digital designer), the batting is Hobbs Polydown, which gives a nice loft.  The thread is gold. If you look closely at the second picture you can see the triangles create a star. I can see 3 different stars if I squint & use my ‘magic eyes’. The backing is Navy, my photo doesn’t do it justice. Nice quilt!!
